Exploring the Role of Cannabinoids in Women's Wellness

Cannabinoids are emerging as a promising tool for addressing various health concerns unique to women, including pelvic pain, endometriosis, menstrual discomfort, PMS/PMDD, and menopause symptoms. This presentation will explore the limited body of research on how cannabinoids may support women's wellness. It will cover potential therapeutic applications, safety considerations, and practical guidance for incorporating cannabinoid therapies into women’s health care.
Dr. Bone is board certified in Obstetrics & Gynecology by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (1991) and a Certified Cannabis Physician in Florida (2016). She received her medical degree from Albany Medical College and completed a residency at George Washington University Hospital. She now resides in South Florida where she owns a private practice, Dr. Melanie Bone, and is Director of Cannabinoid-Based Therapies at MorseLife Health System.
Dr. Bone is an industry consultant to both medical and cannabis companies. She is a member of the Medical Advisory Board and serves as the Chief Medical Officer USA for Daye, a novel gynecology and research company based in Liverpool.
In 2021, Dr Bone joined the faculty of Florida Atlantic University (FAU) as a Clinical Affiliate Assistant Professor. She teaches medical students about cannabis and is working conducting a study in conjunction with FAU on cannabis and dementia at MorseLife Health System.
Dr. Bone works with 2nd.md to provide second opinions about a wide range of topics including gynecology, hormones, cannabis and surgery. Patients seek her out for her expertise in managing menopause, fibroids and endometriosis, and cannabis-related concerns, all with an emphasis on solutions and support.
Dr. Bone prides herself on combining a down-to-earth bedside manner with cutting-edge clinical skills. She believes that listening well to your patients is the key to making a diagnosis and best outcomes are obtained by applying a common-sense approach to each patient’s problem. Dr. Bone embraces integrative medicine, often using both traditional and non-traditional solutions to manage complex problems.
Genester Wilson-King MD FACOG/ABOG is a Board-Certified Obstetrician and gynecologist with over 25 years of clinical experience providing compassionate and research-driven care to patients. After years of working as a full-service OB/GYN, she founded Victory Rejuvenation Center (VRC). This private holistic and preventive medicine practice provides life-transforming management modalities and customized medicines to patients. As the Medical Director of VRC, she helps her patients age gracefully and achieve holistic well-being. Her expertise focuses on plant-based medicine, integrated health, nutrition, supplements, and hormone balance. Dr. Wilson-King primarily uses compounded plant-based medicines (FDA-approved) and pharmaceutical-grade supplements.
Dr. Wilson-King is a specialist in the use of cannabis in women’s health conditions including pelvic pain, endometriosis, severe dysmenorrhea, PMD/PMDD, PCOS, perimenopause and menopause. She consults with pregnant patients who want to use cannabis to manage their pre-existing conditions (such as PTSD, chronic pain, anxiety and depression) or as harm reduction during pregnancy. There are many modalities without cannabis. Sometimes cannabis is used with much discretion and some limitations.
As a nationally recognized speaker on cannabis and wellness, Dr. Wilson-King presents on cannabis in obstetrics, gynecology, and for the aging patient. She has held dozens of seminars throughout the state of Florida on premenstrual syndrome management, menopause, bioidentical hormone therapy, and aging from a holistic perspective. She speaks internationally on cannabis therapeutics and sits on the Board of various medical cannabis organizations.
Research is also a part of Dr. Wilson-King’s work. She has several publications and is currently working with a research team doing an ethnographic study on cannabis use in pregnancy.
Dr. Wilson-King received a B.A. degree from the prestigious Swarthmore College, then earned a medical degree from Thomas Jefferson Medical College (now known as Sydney Kimmel Medical School). She completed her internship and residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.Dr. Wilson-King began her medical service at the Fort Pierce Community Health Center in Florida, where she served the medically underprivileged for four years. During this time, Dr. Wilson-King presided over 70 baby deliveries per month which she regards as one of the most rewarding periods in her career.
In August of 1990, Dr. Wilson-King became the first female surgeon on staff at Florida Hospital Waterman and the first African American physician in the Golden Triangle area of Lake County. Over the past 20 years, Wilson-King's professional reputation has continued to grow. Dr. Wilson-King is committed to integrity, patient education, and safety.
